Light of Hope Ltd. and TESOL Society of Bangladesh signed an agreement today to provide online and offline training to English teachers in Bangladesh. Representatives from both organizations signed the agreement at the Light of Hope Headoffice in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
Under the agreement, TESOL BD will design and develop curriculum, training modules, provide online and offline training programs for English teachers at different levels (pre-school, kindergarten, primary, high school, madrasa etc.) in Bangladesh.
Online courses will be certificate courses, professional development courses on English language training, leadership training for schools, institutions and organizations. The courses will be offered as pre-job training, on-job training, 21st-century skill training and leadership training to cover the entire professional career of a teacher.
Light of Hope CEO, Waliullah Bhuiyan said, We’ve seen a lot of English learning courses from students to professional levels in our country. But English as a language is introduced in our curriculum from Grade 1. So why as a nation our English speaking skill is so bad? It starts with qualified skilled English teachers who are teaching the language at different levels of our education system. We have some great English teachers, no doubt about that. But systematically if we want to change the entire nation’s English speaking skills in the next 10 years, we should start with the teachers. And with online platforms like our Teachers Time, we can reach out to hundreds of thousands of teachers at the same time. It will enable English teachers from every corner of the country to improve their skills conveniently at a very low cost.
Prof. Sayeedur Rahman, PhD, Founder and President of TESOL Society of Bangladesh share the same philosophy. He said as we have been working for developing the capacity of the English teachers for a long time, bringing our expertise, knowledge and trainer pool online will have a huge impact. During COVID-19, we have seen the amazing enthusiasm of the teachers who are taking live classes using their limited resources. It shows that the teachers are ready to take their own professional development from online courses too. Any English teacher in Bangladesh, interested to develop their skills should get access to that. Thanks to Light of Hope – it will be possible now.
The activity under the agreement is already set to move as both organizations are going to start their first 2-Month Certificate Course for English teachers from November 2020. Several one-day workshops are also designed to roll from October 2020.
The participants who will complete the TESOL Courses will get certification from Light of Hope and TESOL. This will help them to get job as teachers, improve their professional careers and help students to get better at English.
TESOL Society of Bangladesh is a chapter of global TESOL organizations worldwide. It aims to create the largest forum for English language teachers in Bangladesh. The organization provides consultancy, conduct online and offline training through its professional trainer members.
